For more than 60 years Norcross has been providing viscometers and viscosity control expertise from the viscosity cups to integrated viscosity control systems for complete process control.

What is a Norcross viscometer?

The basic components of a Norcross viscomete are a viscosity sensor and a controller. The viscosity sensor is partially submerged in the fluid to be measured. The controller, by means of an air valve, operates the sensor.

The measured fluid's viscosity is a function of the sensors 'Piston Time-of-Fall'. If the viscosity is higher than the desired value; i.e. the actual Time-of-Fall is greater than the desired Time-of-Fall, the controller can automatically add solvent to the fluid.

Norcross offer a variety of open tank sensor to meet your applicationsneeds as well as single loop microprocessor and multi station PLC based controllers.

Benefits of

Norcross Viscometers

Simple

Norcross measures viscosity based on an easy-to-understand principle: the time required for the piston to fall through a fluid in a stationary measuring cylinder (the ‘Piston Time-of-Fall’)

Sensitive

Norcross viscometers can detect the viscosity changes between hot and cold water, which demonstrates our sensitivity to small changes in viscosity.

Rugged

The patented falling piston principle permits the design of a durable, yet simple and dependable instrument that requires minimum maintenance.

Easy to Install

The measuring element can be installed on any existing tank or vessel, or in a sampling chamber. The controller can be remotely located as desired.

Corrosion Resistant

Wetted parts are constructed of stainless steel, affording years of reliability.

Repeatable

Because the falling piston principle depends upon the force of gravity, its constancy ensures the repeatability of the falling piston’s results.

Self-Cleaning

The reverse flushing resulting from the up/down motion of the piston, provides effective self-cleaning

Easy to Clean

All wetted parts are designed to be easily removed for cleaning.

Products

In-Tank Viscosity Sensors

Model M8BO & MFBO

ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE VISCOMETER
Viscosity Range: 0.1-100,000 cps
For applications (like printing inks) where short measuring elements are acceptable and quick, easy clean-up is desired.

Model M8F

ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE VISCOMETER
Viscosity Range: 0.1-100,000 cps
Norcross offers viscometers for open tanks or vessels at atmospheric pressure and models for closed vessels either above or below atmospheric pressure. Viscometers can be supplied for side stream or in-line applications; for continuous, closed loop monitoring or for intermittent monitoring and testing. Click on the button to the left that matches your application to view detailed information on the best viscometers in the world.

Model MOFB

ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE VISCOMETER
Viscosity Range: 0.1-100,000 cps
For applications where it is desirable to have the wetted parts exposed to facilitate removal of built-up fluids.

Sensors- In-Line

Model M51

IN-LINE VISCOSITY SENSOR
Viscosity Range: 0.1-2,000 cps
Where viscosity is to be measured with an in-line sensor at low pressure (<20psi/1.4Bar), and low flow (<5gpm/191pm).

Model 40 VICSENSE

IN-LINE NO MOVING PARTS VISCOSITY/TEMP SENSOR
Viscosity Range: 0.1-400 cps
Where viscosity is to be measured with an in-line sensor at low pressure (<60psi/4Bar).
Sensor typically installed in pipe tee (furnished by Norcross 3/4" NPT) with flow rate of up to 10gpm (381pm). Large flow rates can be accommodated by using large elbow or tee connections. Can be installed in any orientation. Provides 4-20 madc signals for both Vi
scosity and Temperature.

Model M24

IN-LINE VISCOMETER
Viscosity Range: 0.1
-7,000 cps
